The One That Kept Us Busy the Whole Year
Friday, February 20, 2009 written @ 10:09 PM
Final Year Project
It's final.
Yes, finally had some time to blog about this... It has been in my Drafts folder for quite a while already... =x
Well then, I decided to blog on this to kind of end of this last year we have in poly. It was THE thing that kept us all damn busy through out this year. Hmm, all I can say is, this project sure kept us on our feet all the time. Constantly.
I do have to give it its due credit, as it did bring about certain benefits. At least we did have our fair share of fun. We did have our fair share of joy. We did have our fair share of knowledge from this. Yet of course, we did have our fair share of sorrows. We did have our fair share of brain cells that are now resting in peace. We did have our fair share of tears - at least that was, for me.
All in all, we've come to the end of this chapter... I certainly hope we wouldn't be shortening our lives because of this, considering how we made so many people suffer. Seriously, there was a whole full of ups and downs in this year.
Now recalling the time when we had to ballot for this - we were like, the unluckiest group of all? We didn't succeed in any of the projects we wanted to ballot for, so we ended up with this - which wasn't that bad in the end. I guess most people didn't want to choose it because it required searching for volunteers and taking blood. Really tough process, got to admit that.
Then I guess starting to work together wasn't easy as well... Some misunderstandings I guess. Well then, through out the few months subsequently, we managed to get on with everything rather well.
I think the hardest part was to get across ourselves in taking blood. Seriously, I'd say that even though I might not show it, it was an ordeal for every one of us. Right from the beginning, wow - *speechless* (I really have no idea how to describe this feeling).
But trust me, our hearts only sank further and further whenever we saw a 'no blood' situation in the blood tubes after that stinging pierce into the skin. The guilt - it was horrible. Tries after tries, on our beloved friends and classmates, whom we know who kept any displeasures to themselves so as not to hurt us. Demoralising as it was, we managed to survive this, and it somehow got better.
The time we spent in the lab was also countless. Each time we stepped in, we'd be in there for hours. Setting up, settling in, running around, carrying bags of food back, taking blood, centrifuging, running machine, taking blood, waiting, taking blood, clearing up... It's no wonder the lab techs had to start chasing us once it reached 5pm - time to knockoff from work. Time management - really important.
I guess the time we spent in Mr Woo's office wasn't little as well. LOL... Going into his office, bugging him for this and that, settling money issues, stuff like that... Somehow each time we went in, we'd never fail to comment on how messy his table was. hahaha... =x
The fun, the tears, and all...

Then amidst this busy schedule, came Spinnovex 2009. It was quite an honour to be selected actually, but I guess the main idea is that we get to miss lessons... =x
The 3 days in open house were rather boring. Nobody bothers to come over to our section - they probably thought it's a resting area for the exhibitors, cos we were all sitting down and entertaining ourselves... LOL... =x
Actually we weren't self entertaining all the time... We had a few people that provided quite a bit of entertainment along to way too... hahahaha...
Like, someone who came and asked about 'urea', which we thought was the metabolic waste product... It turned out it was some fertiliser... -_-lll and then he began promoting his 'amber' that he's selling, like we have the money to buy.... -_-lll then he went on to the next booth and promoted arowana fish... He must be a bored person...
Then there was the idiotic person who came booth by booth to shoot everyone's project down... Until it was like, worthless... The thing is, he wouldn't even listen to any explanations... wth?
Of course, not forgetting, the countless number of guys who popped over with hidden agendas... LOL... Who's complaining when there's free candy floss and ice-cream anyway? =p
We had our fair deal of eye feasting too, actually... and someone apparently had something to take away from there! =)
The Tent!

Look how bored we were...

So don't blame us for starting on a camera spree! =x

Proudly presenting... Spinnovex 2009! =)

Honestly, it was really quite an experience... (so that person who printed our names wrongly on the cert, please hurry and get it reprinted... -_-lll)
Report rushing was another big part of it... Gosh. What an ordeal it was. Staying in the library until it closes, trying to finish up whatever we had to finish, delaying the deadline time and again... Seriously, that was how we spent the new year! Report, report and still report... I can't remember how else I spent my new year... Wasn't a very good start for the year eh? =(
The tonnes and tonnes of toilet rolls we have (the result slips that the machine printed out - hmm, I wonder why it hasn't run out of ink yet) that we had to compile and analyse on. The stack of 500 surveys to key in and calculate... Organisation - also important.
Biostatistics was a big headache. Called on Lai Nai Shin a few times and hung his computer many times (even the programme couldn't cope with our massive load). Somehow, we got the stuff on track after many many tries... Though I'm not sure how accurate it is... =x
Towards the end, I was nearly on the brink of breakdown... Total limit. There was even a point that I was lying down, trying to sleep, when the stress was too overwhelming... I was like, "I'd rather I got down with dengue or something, and landed myself in hospital... Then when I wake up, all this shit is gone." hahah... =x
Well, those few days I was really very tensed up. Easily frustrated. I wasn't even concentrating on my normal life, that when the traffic light turned green, I didn't even realise Shirley already started crossing the road... haha... that was a really funny scene. There was even once when my whole family was waiting for me to go out to shop for CNY clothes, but I was so pek chek, none of them dared to talk to me... They were all just silently waiting in the living room, from morning till evening... lol... =x
Well then, we still survived it...
Soon came the final presentation... Just that 30 minutes made us spend many many hours... In the end, well presentation wasn't that bad.. Maybe Q&A was... but well, it's over...
Then a few days ago, we finally submitted all the rest of the entire lot... the surveys, the results, and all the rest of the crap... and so, that marks the end of this thing that kept us busy one whole year...
It's over.
Now, I suddenly feel lost. No more blood taking, no more rushing, no more queuing up at McDonald's or KFC, no more report rushing, no more of the fun and laughter we've had... It all ends, right here. Somehow, I have this feeling I'll miss it. Sigh.
Well, let's just hope that all these is well worth the effort yea, and hopefully Woo Wee Hong 先生 will be kind enough, to give us an A... haha... =D
That's all for now... I didn't realise it was such a long post... lol... but there'll be more of such to come. =x
For now, enjoy studying, people... =p
