April Fools' Day - An Evil Plot
Wednesday, April 1, 2009 written @ 11:27 PM
Happy April Fools' Day, everyone! =)
Today was such an exciting day... Started of rather normal and boring, actually. Throughout the whole day, I was so sad that there's nothing for me to prank on, because nothing came to mind! I thought we'd had to spend the day just normally, without any fun... until evening time, where the fun begins to accumulate.
Ok, first of all, we started with a buffet lunch at Marina Square's Seoul Garden. The 6 of us, Fiona, Nicholas, Andy, Wayne, Jeremy and me, were rather bored last night, and suddenly decided on the spur to meet up for buffet lunch today. After much discussion, we finally decided on Korean BBQ at MS.
Meeting time was 11am at City Hall, and somehow my alarm didn't ring, and I ended up waking 45 minutes later than I was supposed to. So as Jeremy had predicted, I arrived late. But well, I was only 10 minutes late, unlike someone... *ehem*
We started at around 11.30am, when they opened for business, and sat there all the way until the buffet ends - almost 4pm. What great eaters we have there.
The night before, Jeremy and I were still trying to come up with some pranks that we can fool people on this 1st of April. We thought of getting rubber cockroaches, and so we can place them secretly into Andy's bag and observe his reaction. But it was so late in the night, we couldn't really find any rubber cockroaches, and we're meeting too early today for any shops to open yet.
So well, we were considering Plan B. That is, Jeremy would sit beside me during Seoul Garden and pretend to cook lots of food for me, and see who turns suspicious first. Well then, that plan wasn't quite successful either, because of some difficulties in the seating arrangement. Sigh.
After dinner, we walked around MS for a while, while trying to decide what we're going to do next. We finally decided on pool at Paradiz Center. My goodness, that place has certainly changed a lot. We couldn't find any pool there, but Andy and Wayne found one in the next mall, at Parklane.
So we played there for 2 hours. Seriously, I haven't touched pool for so long, I don't even seem to be able to hit properly. LOL. What a disgrace. =x
Much as pool was still quite fun, I was beginning to lament on how our April Fools Day was just going to end without any significant events happening. Then, I realised I've received 2 smses from my dear Shirley.
The first goes saying she has something to tell me, and for me not to tell anyone. She said she was pregnant. For a moment, I did stun there. But within a second, I recovered. My first thought that made me recover with relief wasn't that 'it's April Fools today', but rather 'Shirley isn't the sort of person'.
Her second sms was scolding me for not replying. She said that that was meant to be an April Fools joke. That got me calling her, to scold her for that idiotic joke. With that call, and a few subsequent ones, we decided to meet up. Since most of us have dinner at home, and she and Sarah were done with dinner, we decided to meet for some dessert.
In the calls, Shirley was saying that Sarah has got herself a new boyfriend. Easy to believe. He is right there with them. Hard to believe. So we spent some time there arguing between ourselves, Shirley trying hard to make me believe.
Truthfully speaking, I'm a very easily convinced person. So within moments, she got me swayed towards wanting to believe. But still, not wanting to fall for any April Fools jokes, I kept threatening the truth out of her, even to the extent of asking her to describe that guy, and she'd be like, "Ask Sarah if you don't believe!"
As we set foot to walk from Dhoby Ghaut to Orchard to look for them, we were still debating among ourselves. Fiona was insisting that she don't believe, whereas by that time, I've decided to believe. Jeremy was on my side too. I was so confident of myself, that I even challenged Fiona to a bet. LOL... I'm glad she declined. =x
Even so, we decided to come up with a better plan to fool them, nevertheless. Jeremy suggested for me and Wayne to walk in holding hands. So I was like, "Ya, right. Why not you and me hold hands and walk in instead?" Well, that did it. I looked for trouble myself. -_-lll
So in that 15 minute walk to Orchard, we were up for designing our foolproof plan. We got all 6 of us to play along, to try and make Sarah and Shirley believe that Jeremy and I were together. Obviously, holding hands and walking in would not be a good idea, because it's too obvious. We had to make things go the subtle way, which is really a test of our acting skills!
By the time we were reaching, the whole story was outlined properly, with some of the nitty gritty details left for a bit of impromptu work on the spot itself. The rest were really 'cooperative', insisting that Jeremy and I need to spend some time alone to get into the mood. Oh well, we used that time to discuss our plan further anyway.
At least I was glad at the fact that the 2 of us are such good friends, we were comfortable enough with each other, there was no need to feel any awkwardness. This way, we could at least make the act more convincing. Besides, I was quite certain that the 2 of them, especially Shirley, for that matter, would fall for this. Because I just know them too well. =p
As we approached Far East Plaza, where we knew the 2 of them would be waiting, I could see the tension beginning to rise. That Jeremy was quite nervous, and he was spreading his nervousness to me! Bleah... After all, it's our first time playing such a big prank on our friends.
We reached the entrance, where we were supposed to meet our 2 'innocent' victims. We were waiting for quite a while, that Nicholas and a few others were beginning to suspect if Sarah and Shirley were really at Far East. Gosh, if that really had been their idea of an April Fools' joke, they'd have been so dead. Luckily, it turned out that they were late only because Sarah was trying on some clothes, as usual.
We screened carefully at the huge crowd - ok, maybe, not that huge crowd - looking for traces of our prey. Finally, as we saw the 2 of them walking towards us, with each step nearer into our trap, I was filled with excitement. Actually, I was more eager to prove to Fiona that I was right, and to ascertain that amount of trust I've put into betting on the 2 of them.
As they approached us, a whole wave of disappointment shook me. Obviously, Sarah didn't have a boyfriend. Obviously, that boyfriend isn't there. Obviously, that had all been an April Fools' prank they pulled on me. Obviously, Fiona was right. Great.
So all the way, I was harping on the fact that they betrayed my trust. But I couldn't bear myself to not talk to them. Especially not when I could take comfort on the fact that we had a counter plan too. =p
Our plan began to take shape as we sat down at the dessert shop. Jeremy was just beside me, and we shared a bowl of dessert. It was just as helpful, that our 2 targets were seated just right in front of us. We tried to appear very close, and talk rather softly between ourselves. Well, there was one point when Shirley jokingly went, "Why you say until so sweet!" *暗爽*
But apart from that, there wasn't any much hint that they were falling for it. What was worse was that there were a whole bunch of people waiting outside the shop for us to get our butts off our seats so they could come in. So we had no choice, but to move off. When we were getting out of the shop, I threw Jeremy a worried look and asked, "How? It's not working!"
Not far from the dessert shop, some clothes caught their eye, and Sarah and Shirley went right in, leaving the rest of us outside. Making use of this chance to discuss our plan further, I pulled Jeremy to the wall, so they could catch us 'unaware' when they decide to walk out of the shop.
What a perfect plan. Shirley was walking out of the shop to look for us, as Sarah went to try on some clothes, and she saw us, with that 1-meter distance away from the rest of the clique. There she came, charging towards us and asking, "Why are the two of you here in a world of your own! I wanna join in too!" and placed herself right in the middle of the 2 of us. We instinctly jumped away from her.
Good, plan working. The suspicious look she casted at us was just enough to make us snigger a silent laugh within ourselves. I looked for a way out too, and tried to say that Fiona is my boyfriend. Fiona didn't want to admit that, so I went back to the wall and joined where my 'boyfriend' for the day is talking to Shirley.
We somehow got to the topic of kite flying tomorrow, and mahjong sessions. Jeremy was just saying that tomorrow evening he can't make it. So Shirley would, as we expected, ask why. Jeremy replied that he had to go to his grandma's place. Just as he finished, he mouthed the words, 'want to come?' right over Shirley, who was facing him, to pose the question at me.
Immediately, Shirley was stunned, and swung around to face me, asking, "HUH! Why are you going?!" In response to that, I just avoided her gaze and kept laughing only. Well, that was suggestive enough for her. And that idiotic Jeremy had a look of triumph when we saw her expression. Damn it.
She kept pestering why I kept it from her, and she was asking when it happened. We told her according to what we discussed in that 15 minutes of planning. After a few questions, she looked at me and said, "You have a lot of explaining to do tonight." I'm starting to enjoy this.
So then, as we went to another shop, where Sarah wanted to try her pants, we continued talking about some of these, and I was answering a few more of her questions, like whether my parents know about it and stuff like that.
Along the way, I threw in a few facts as well, twisting them a little to fit into our story. Well, that's the way I like to do it all along, in other situations as well, so I never have to feel the full guilt of telling a lie each time. =x
Then, when Sarah was looking for opinions on the pants she was trying, she took the chance to ask me, "Are you and Jeremy together?" I managed to just smile sheepishly, or so I thought, and Shirley took over the answering part, by saying, "See! It's so obvious!"
Throughout the night, Shirley kept insisting on how accurate she was when she kept saying she thinks Jeremy and I will be together since the very beginning of this year. Well, the smirk she has on her face just added on to the pleasure we derived to see how deep she's fallen for our trick, without any trace of suspicion at all. Now, I feel a little guilty saying this. Sarah even said she'll come online tonight to interrogate me.
Well of course, our supporting actors played a part in this too! Andy, especially, made it even more convincing for Shirley. He was acting emo the whole night, keeping to himself and to a point, he even went to tell Shirley that he was feeling very sad. LOL. It made a very big difference, really. Shirley was still telling me that I have to understand, that she needs to comfort Andy.
What Shirley and Sarah didn't see, of course, is what we've been up to behind their backs. When Jeremy and I were seemingly in a world of our own, talking, we were actually gloating and discussing further steps to our plan. They also didn't see the serious Andy turn back to his normal self for that few seconds behind the pillar to talk to us.
When we were walking out of Far East Plaza, the 2 gullible women were walking in front, and Jeremy and I figured out that they were probably discussing about 'us'. Seeing how they were laughing and all smiles, I turned to Jeremy and said, "I'm going to be so dead when they find out." And Jeremy's response? "Me too."
On the way back, we were trying to decide when to break the news to them, having come so far and been so successful. Andy and Wayne were getting too much fun from this, that they even wanted to carry the prank to a few days more. Jeremy and I, and Fiona too, felt that it was really unnecessary, cos it totally defeats the purpose of it being an April Fools joke.
Besides, I want to see the expression on Shirley and Sarah's face when they come to know of the truth! To carry the prank for another few more days would also mean we'd die an even more horrible death. And I won't know how to fend off the questions they'd be shooting at me that night.
So when we were at the MRT platform waiting for the train to come, we decided to break the news there and then. Well, the whole thing began like that...
On the signal of Jeremy's,
Everyone: "HAPPY APRIL FOOL!"
Shirley: (stunned) "Ya, ya, Happy April Fool!"
Everyone: (looks at our 2 victims)
Shirley: "What is the joke?!"
Everyone: (laughing hysterically)
Sarah: (totally blurred)
Shirley: (looks at Andy, looks at everyone, looks at me, and without warning, her hand found their way around my neck, and I was pinned onto the door somewhere, red from head to toe)
"Sarah! Come over and help me! They cheated us!!!"
Omg. I was red because I couldn't stop laughing. We all laughed so hard, we were all red and hot. Really, the expression on their faces just made my whole entire week. Well then, that basically sums up, or I should say, is an almost full recount, of the biggest prank we've ever played. They played a trick on us, we played one back. We're quits, aren't we? =p
On the whole way home, we were just talking and talking about it. Just when I was about to alight, Sarah suddenly posed me a question, "Janet, when are you moving house?" All of us were stunned at her lack of updates.
Since it was April Fools' Day, we decided to play along with it. Shirley was saying I've shifted long ago, for 1-2 months already. So Sarah was like, "Huh? Where did you shift to?" and I replied a quick "Kovan Melody" and got down the train. LOL. As usual, our dear gullible Sarah.
What an exciting day this had been! Still, to Sarah and Shirley, sorry for tricking you, but it sure did bring about a lot of fun. =)
At the end of the day, I did a quick reflection, and sort of decided it was better to make your friends happy for nothing, than to be sad for nothing. Imagine, if someone had tricked me into feeling sad, or even to crying, I'd probably be much more angry at them. I hate the thought of having to feel sad, at all.
My dearest, two cutest fool in the world. Love them.
