Things on a Better Note
Thursday, April 23, 2009 written @ 8:07 PM
Today was my 3rd day at work. The past 3 days... hmm.. Well, working is definitely tiring. Every day, I'd be coming home with super dry eyes. At night, I'd be peering through what's left of my eyes to watch my TV and chat online. Johnny was suggesting for me to wear specs there instead of contacts, so at least my eyes won't feel that dry. Good suggestion. Wait till I change my specs please. LOL... =x
Ok, people are telling me at least I have a job. Alright alright, I don't mind that fact. Though I don't really need to money that desperately, but I think it'd at least be good to have some money in my pocket. I'm thinking of saving up for an overseas trip or something. Am considering several destinations, near and far! Shall see how when the time comes... =)
Hmm... Let's see, the first day was boring. Yes, and so far, I'm really glad I haven't decided to make some crazy decision and switch to accountancy. LOL... =x (Madeline, I'm not talking about you.) It just isn't my cup of tea. Besides numbers and numbers, I'm still facing figures and figures.
The real annoying part comes when you find that your figures just don't tally. Gosh. I had to look through the 8 whole pages of bank statements, filled with super small font sizes, like literally more than 5 times.
I had to check and re-check my figures, and then suddenly find that I've made many mistakes in the process of keying it into the computer, like keying in the amount as $---76 instead of $---67. Next time I better check immediately after I key in every single number.
Gabriel (I think he has a 'George' face, in fact, I always had to prevent myself from blurting out 'George' when calling him.) asked me if I have a sense of achievement when my numbers finally tally. I think it was more like a sense of relief.
Well, have been helping Zar Zar write invoices too. That's less boring at least, but still, it gets very taxing on the fingers after writing a few hundred. Cos you still have to make sure you write it hard enough so that the writing on the other 2 carbon copies at the back can still be seen clearly. And I was never one who wrote with strength.
Zar Zar is quite an adorable and lively girl. I was shocked when she told me her age. She's from Myanmar, by the way, so that explains her name. Her personality seems to get her on rather good terms with every one else.
Oh yes, and yesterday, we had a new colleague from Peru! Had the chance to talk to him today during lunch. He's really a very chatty person, and he has a whole lot of things to talk about. And I think he's a really bright person (my mum agrees with that too), and witty with his words. He is observant. Within just this past 24 hours that he's been here in Singapore, he could tell many things already. Things which I really have to agree with.
Plus, he speaks Spanish! And knows some random French words here and there. Just now during lunch, he was still teaching us that few words like 'Good morning' in Spanish, 'so-so' in French, and stuff like that. But I already forgot how to say them 1 hour later.
Besides that, he's quite good looking too! LOL... =x Ah well, you see, he has these nice eyes which are light brown in colour, and they seem to glimmer whenever he speaks, because he always speaks with so much enthusiasm. He holds your eyes whenever he is talking to you too. Conclusion: mesmerising.
He's been to several places in the world, so it's quite an eye-opener talking to him. He has some Japanese blood running in him too! haha... Anyway, I think the way he talks and laugh kind of reminds me of Lawrence. Sometimes, or I should say, most of the time, he speaks so fast we got to ask him to slow down and repeat. Till now, I still can't catch his name properly. =x
On the other hand, the other colleague from South America too, was a sharp contrast to him. He doesn't really interact much with the others, though chipping in a few sentences here and there just now during lunch with the other guy. Though he's been here a much longer time, I think there are some people who are unsure of his name.
There's still this other colleague they got from another country - Jamaica. He seems rather quiet, but can still talk to him when you do. Yesterday during lunch, my mum was still asking him if they run every lesson for PE. HAHA... Quite obviously, Usain Bolt is one thing that'd surely come to your mind whenever Jamaica pops out. =x
See, the company is so multi-racial. A very nice mix of different different cultures. Like that Peru guy was saying, every day you learn something new.
Hmm... Still haven't got the chance to talk to that first good looking guy I saw though. LOL! =x But I think it's weird to call his name, cos everyone else calls him 'Ah Ping'. I think it'll sound weird coming out from my mouth. Maybe I'll blurt out something like 'shuai ge' the next time I want to call him. hahahaha... =xxxxxxxxxxx
Oh ya, and just now during work, I received a call from the University of Manchester. They did email me regarding this session they're conducting. It's actually calls made by their current students, and is a chance for us to clarify any queries we have.
The guy who called me was someone named William, and he definitely sounds Singaporean. I think I had a miscall from them yesterday too, but my phone was on silent, kept nicely in my bag. Today, my phone was on the table, but he happened to call when I'm at work! So I was saying, I don't actually have any questions to ask, and I ended the call within exactly 2 minutes.
The moment I put down my phone, I turned back to the table and saw a whole stack of invoices waiting to be filled. My gosh. Immediately, I started to regret my decision, but I couldn't possibly call him back. Firstly, long distance calls are expensive. Damn. Secondly, I don't even have their number. Oh no.
At least, that could have been a chance for me to take a break sort of 'officially'! It was an 'important' call! Sigh. I'm just too slow at times. And and, that could possibly be a potential friend I could have had if I decide to go to the University of Manchester to study! Though that's not very possible, but still, wasted. Oh well...
Ok, that's all for now! At least I still have the energy to blog now. Yesterday was horrible. Had to rush for tuition lesson after work. By the time I reached home and finished eating my dinner, it's already almost 10. Busy busy.
Hope tomorrow would be an even better day! =)
