Yet Another Week Gone...
Friday, July 3, 2009 written @ 4:19 PM
Oh no, I really have been ignoring the presence of this blog. LOL. Seriously, facebook steals a lot of my time. And also, once I've uploaded the photos onto facebook (so much more easily than blogger), I won't feel like coming back to my blog to update, since pictures are supposed to do the talking. Oops... =x
Anyway, brief highlights of the past week...
Saturday
Last Saturday, we went to the Night Safari! I'd say it's quite an interesting place to visit. They have a whole collection of animals there, some rather exotic and never seen before.
The tram ride that we took was good. It passed through a whole series of free ranging animals, some at rather close proximity. On top of that, their hosts were very well versed in their script contents and equipped with a good voice.
The "Creatures of the Night" show didn't have many animals to show, but they made the 30-min show quite unique. They tried to include closer interactions with the audience, by having the animal climb down a 'rope' right above our heads. Seriously, I'm totally impressed by the puma, which really climbed up the thick wooden pole in just a blink of the eye!
Halfway through the show, they even staged a situation whereby the animal 'escaped'. Then they started going into the audience, searching for the animal. It turned out that a whole group of audience has been seating right above a super gigantic snake for the whole time in the show without realising it!
Oh and there was the cage that we could enter. There are 2 such cages - one for the flying squirrels, and the second for the fruit bats and flying fox. The first we entered was the flying squirrel cage. The whole build up to the place was just intensified with the whole series of doors we had to go through. Open, close, open, close... Finally when we reached, it took us quite a long time to spot the flying squirrel. Not too impressive.
Then the second, was of course, the bats! This is, obviously, a little bit scarier. The curtain of beads at the entrance was plain irritating. -_-lll So we entered. This cave-like environment is definitely much more exciting compared to the first. Though it didn't have the eerie-like feeling you'd expect from a bat's habitat, at least that helped to ease the screaming we had from some of the other visitors.
The moment we entered, a bat already flew past me! It was right in front of my hand (which was holding my DSLR), such that I could feel the wind coming from the flapping of its wings. Now, that's a taste of how good the bat's approximation of distance between things in their surroundings is. That bat that flew past me was going right for the apple swinging on the branch of the tree beside me. Cool.
Proceeding on down the cage, we saw the bigger bats! The flying fox... Omg, seriously, I'm glad this thing didn't start flying around like those smaller fruit bats did. If they did, I can't guarantee that you won't hear me scream. These are so much bigger, hanging upside down on the tree branch. It even looked directly into my camera with its red eyes. Gosh, it sure did send shivers down my spine.
Side note: Fiona, you better don't try. =x
Hmm... I guess that's about it for the night adventure... For photos, please refer to facebook.
All in all, a rather enjoyable night. =)
Rest of the Week
Well, the rest of the week wasn't anything exciting... Just more slacking and stuff like that.
Yesterday, I read "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom. Okay, I know I'm slow, but at least better than nothing. Pretty short book, so I managed to finish it within a few hours. The book was great - inspirational, yet not boring. The 5th person he met totally made my heart wrench even though I expected it. Worth a read if you're free... =)
Alright, this sums up the past week of mine! Everyone seems to be getting busy. When is our next outing, people?! Hope I can get back the mood to blog... It's getting boring to see the same post on top every time. LOL! =x
"Love, like rain, can nourish from above, drenching couples with a soaking joy. But sometimes, under the angry heat of life, love dries on the surface and must nourish from below, tending to its roots, keeping itself alive."
