Time for a proper update... Let's see...
First Day of School
Yes, today was the first day of school! Obviously it's kind of boring, with lecturers starting their lectures even on the first lesson.
Well, started off the day with lunch with my dad! He offered to fetch me to school, while having lunch with me before I went. He brought us for duck porridge at South Buona Vista! Hmm... It was really nice, and I actually had 1.5 bowls of porridge.
It's actually really hard to get me to try something new like this, but somehow he was lucky enough to bump into this day that I'm feeling rather adventurous. So it turned out that duck wasn't as bad as how I remembered it.
We had to pass through the "99 湾" before we reached - really made me kind of giddy. The setting at that place had a very retro touch to it. There wasn't any aircon, but the environment was clean and cosy enough for a nice meal.
Though the food was really delicious, it totally isn't economical to eat there at all. Our meal for 2 cost us $16.50 in all, for 3 bowls of porridge, 1 plate of duck meat, 1 plate of tofu, and 2 cups of barley. Restaurant standard.
Alright then, after a satisfying meal, I went on to my very first lecture in NUS. What can we expect from lectures?!
The lecturer of the first lesson I had today even finished a whole topic. I was super agitated cos I was trying to control the sphincter at my bladder, but yet she kept talking on and on until her lecture time was up on the dot. -_-lll
The chemistry bridging module that I didn't manage to get the waiver from was very boring too. We were seated all the way at the back, and it was strenuous trying to look at what exactly is being projected on the screen.
Plus, I had a hard time trying to catch what the lecturer was saying, because of the Indian accent she had. To top it off, her mike went on strike somewhere at the beginning of the lesson. But she was nice enough to end lecture half an hour earlier. =)
Anyway I gave up listening somewhere during the lecture, cos what I'm listening to is the exact stuff I was teaching my cousin just months ago. Sec school stuff.
By the time we finished, we were all famished again! So we went on to the Science canteen to grab a bite. Actually, a meal. LOL! =x
I've decided to try the waffle at the western stall some day. It looked really tempting, if not for the fact that I've already placed my order.
Okay, so that basically sums up the first day of my University life!
The Gang of Admin Staff
I wanted to blog on this a long time ago, but didn't have the chance to. So here goes...
The admin staff at the Life Science Office totally sucks. I think almost the whole of NUS is just biased towards poly students.
Incident #1
It all started off with the first CORS bidding session, when Weisiong went with me to the LSOC to enquire about the missing Chem module, which should have been preallocated to me.
There I was, asking in my nicest tone and most polite way. The staff took down my matriculation number, and asked her fellow colleague to check. When she received the printout from her colleague, she looked at if for a while, and started shaking her head. This is how the conversation went:
Her: (head shaking and sighing) "小姐 ah, it's because of people like you that makes us so busy."
Me: (totally in a state of confusion, like what in the world did I do wrong other than step into that damn office?!)
.
.
.
Her: (pointing to their own acronym on the piece of paper) "What's this?!"
Me: "Erm, Life Science?"
Her: (points to a second one) "What's this?!"
Me: "Management? I'm taking a second major in Management."
Her: "Tsk tsk... (shakes head) With your kind of results you still want to take a double major?"
Me: (blurred, trying to think where in my results suggested the letters, CMI)
Her: "I don't know, maybe you're a Malaysian..."
Me: (I suddenly saw on her paper that she's refering to my "A-level" results, which apparently indicated that I have a C grade in Biology - WTH?! so I interrupted her suggestive pause) "Sorry, but I didn't take A-levels. I was from Poly."
Her: "Ya, means your Poly results are equivalent to this grade in A-levels la."
Me: "Oh..."
Her: "Really la, I have a lot of Poly students who took double major and end up withdrawing because they can't cope."
Totally sucks, isn't it? Downright insulting. She should be glad I gave her face and didn't storm out of the office immediately (which is probably not my style anyway, lol).
Throughout my whole Secondary and Poly life, I've never even gotten a single C. Can I just take my GPA of 4.0 out of 4.0 and throw it right smack onto her mouth?!
In the first place, if the Business side didn't think I'd be fit enough to cope, they wouldn't have accepted my application whilst rejecting other A-level students isn't it?! Is she suggesting that I drop the major without even trying? Bleah!
Incident #2
Alright, it didn't just stop at that.
The second incident was when I went with Peishan and Regina to the Chemistry office to submit our application for waiver of the Chemistry bridging module we were supposed to take for not having taken Chemistry at A-levels.
We went back to the LSOC just to try enquiring if we could drop one of the LSM modules, cos we've already taken it twice in Poly.
First of all, they didn't even understand our question properly. Gave us a whole big round of nonsense that we already knew, and wasn't even answer our question.
When they finally did, then that man was making such a sarcastic remark with his idiotic face, it was annoying. He said, "Oh really? We shall see. I'm sorry to say that, but I mean... We have a lot who claimed to have done the module before, but in the end..."
Yes, fine. Out of the office we went.
Incident #3
I just called up many many various departments today just to find out if our application for waiver went through. In the end, the woman was saying she couldn't even find my application.
But anyway she said they don't give waivers for Biomedical Science students, unless we're from Chemical Engineering or Processing, or something to that extent. Reasonable enough, but why is it that our application isn't even there? Damn.
Peishan was wondering if that woman the other day really submitted, or did she just go behind and shred it away. -_-lll
Conclusion
Oh well, the above incidents have just 'motivated' me to get a CAP of 5.0 and shut all their mouths up. Tight. Make sure they never speak like that ever again.
Random Comments:
- IVLE reminds me of my secondary school days at NYGH.
- Lectures are quiet without my poly clique.
- I miss going home with a whole bunch of people, clogging up the whole Outram Park walkway.
Hope there's a meet up soon... Lots of misses...
