The LSOC Adventures, Continued
Thursday, January 7, 2010 written @ 2:54 PM
Well then, a new year has started, and so does the new semester. The most dreaded bidding session yet again.
On Monday, I decided to email the LSOC regarding allowing me to take a Year 2 module, Experimental Microbiology. I explained that because I'm doing a double major, so I'm trying to schedule my workload and make everything fit. Then since I've already did 3 Microbiology modules back in poly, I believe it should serve as a good foundation. Something like this.
So they replied, with 1 sentence - asking me to go down to the LSOC and fill up and appeal form as soon as possible. Being the typical kiasu NUS student, I went straight down to NUS first thing in the morning the very next day.
After spending like a total of 3 hours on the journey to and fro, I was there for less than 3 minutes only to be told by the counter staff not to appeal because the module is oversubscribed. Wow.
She totally didn't want to hear my explanation at all and whatever I said, she just kept asking me not to appeal. She was saying things like what if when I reach Year 2 and this kind of things happen, they won't be able to help me either. What?! "Please, do us a favour... Don't appeal." What more can I say?
So out I went, called my Dad to complain to him, went to look for Wee Siong to complain to him.
After which, I went on my way home. Just at Dover, some eerie ghost-like voice seemed to be calling out my chinese name. I ignored it. Then I heard it again... and I saw a familiar shirt behind me. So I turned around. Andy. Damn! -_-lll
Throughout the journey, I kept complaining to Andy, yet again, about my adventures at the LSOC, which seems to have nothing good coming out each time I go there. I told him I'll come home and blog... Yes, to complain. LOL! =x
But when I reached home, the mood to blog just disappears.
Just as well, because I just received a phone call today... From a Professor at the LSOC. Apparently they got concerned after receiving the email I sent last night saying that I'm confused by the difference in advice given. =x
He said there was a miscommunication and all. Usually they wouldn't accept Year 1 students appealing for Year 2 modules, but since I'm a poly student, they do have some flexibility there. Just that by the time the email and stuff, the module already has no slots left. He even said that the colleague of his probably didn't look carefully enough... If it were he, he'd have allowed for a waiver on the spot and let me bid immediately. Oh well.
Furthermore, out of the 3 experimental module, apparently there was this particular one that nobody wants to take. LOL! He said I can either try that or apply for the microbial one next semester. Of course he said, like I mentioned in the email that I want to take this module due to the background and familiarity... But he said on the other hand it might be too easy for me cos it's really very basic microbial techniques. HAHA!
Somehow towards the back I took the chance to complain to him about the traveling and making of the wasted trip when he started to go on about how my results were quite good and how I should try to maintain the 4.1 and do my honours year, blablabla. So in the end he apologised again and sounded quite pissed when he said "Okay bye-bye" very quickly and put down the phone. lol!
Okay, at least they bothered to come and clarify it. It makes me feel a whole lot better you know.
It doesn't seem so good to begin my first post of the new year with such a long complaint post, but you know how I like to complain. The next post will be a better one, I promise. =)
